Following the successful drawer system install, my second upgrade to the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness was all about expanding storage and utility for overlanding and photography adventures. This time, I turned my attention to the roof.
I installed the Frontrunner Grab-on Raised Rail Slimline II Kit, measuring 1165mm(W) x 1358mm(L), complete with a wind fairing to cut down on road noise and improve aerodynamics. This low-profile, rugged rack system perfectly complements the Crosstrek's design while offering maximum utility.
Why Frontrunner?
Frontrunner racks are known for their modular design, durability, and wide compatibility with gear mounts and accessories. Whether it’s a rooftop tent, recovery boards, or camera rigging, the Slimline II platform can handle it all. With my growing collection of gear and desire to camp deeper into the backcountry, this rack was a no-brainer.

Smooth Installation
The Grab-on Raised Rail Kit is specifically designed for vehicles with factory roof rails like the Crosstrek. The rack mounted securely with no drilling required and feels incredibly solid. The wind fairing was a smart addition, noticeably reducing wind noise while driving at highway speeds.

Versatile and Ready for More
With the Slimline II in place, I now have the freedom to customize for each trip. It opens the door for adding solar panels, awnings, or even hauling extra cargo boxes for longer journeys. Combined with my drawer system upgrade, the Crosstrek is quickly transforming into a highly capable and organized rig.

Stay tuned—more upgrades are on the way as I continue to turn my Crosstrek Wilderness into the ultimate all-terrain adventure vehicle.
