If you have been to the Sierra Nevadas at any time of the year you would know that the weather can change at any time. From high 80's in the day to low 40's at night. This jacket is perfect for these temperature fluctuations during backpack trips or day hikes. It's SUPER lightweight, packs down small, and is unbelievably warm. I use this jacket when I travel as well. When I have limited space with all my camera gear, there's always just enough space for this jacket. It also makes for great packing material around the camera and lenses to keep them from bouncing around during travel.

Pros: SUPER lightweight and very warm and packs down small. When you pick up this jacket you think to yourself how can it be so light and warm at the same time? If you select the "Custom" version of the Torrid Jacket on their website you can select different material thicknesses and colors for the outside and inside to dial in the preferred colors, durability, and weight.

Cons: The outer material choices are 7D, 10D, or 20D all of which are still extremely lightweight but they tend to snag and tear easily. A workaround that works for me is to bring a lightweight shell jacket to wear over it. I tend to dress in layers anyways so now it's warm and bombproof. Also, the thin material has a tendency to snag on the zippers. So, open and close the zippers slowly.

Note: If you plan out Using this jacket in a layering system buy a size larger, the sizes are already a little snug.
